My site is a work in progress...still putting together my merch/purchase pages and those will be up soon, you have my word. In the meantime, make note of it: I still come here and keep up with all lj friends, but as for updating? Just go to my site.
In case you haven't tuned into http://www.nikkiallen.blogspot.com today, my sister is in labor. She went in around midnight last night and now it's 6:44pm--she's still in labor. I hate being 5 hours away.
Today is April 15th, which is her due date, and her birthday. Happy birthday, gwills. And we're all waiting anxiously for little Madelyn to make her arrival...
during my life i was a woman with brown eyes. But i don't keep windows on my face, don't feel like investing in the curtains and too lazy to plastic them up come winter. A comfy pair for sitting down, ballast to the lashes that constantly want to run away. Blinks once reserved for lying now bum around with nothing to do. I knew a girl with one keyhole shaped pupil, another never seen without her charcoal-toned liner. Defense, or welcome mat? Used to want blue. Or green, like mom's. Watched her pop her contacts in one at a time both swift, no mirror, kind of like a middle class houdini. Years later I am popping them in just like her, no mirror. I know what backwards means, what special glasses can do to the picture on the hidden wall of the red. You can keep things upside down for two weeks. Sometimes science seems so manipulative. And on mannequins, who decides? Everyone in this city has a staring problem, but you get used to it. Bark, sap, cinnamon, bitten apple left laying out. Sparrow, burlap, shit, cowtail tips. Your coffee table, tobacco in confetti shreds, army-issued underwear. When we smoke the good stuff, they become sunsets.
So yeah, I'm going to be an aunt in April, and I have a lot of friends who are expecting soon. In honor of the little-ones-to-be, here are some of my favorite clips from childhood:
My friend Carrie just called me. One of her pet rats passed away this morning, Frick. I just wanted to say rest well, little one. They buried him in the Hollow, which is the perfect place.
